Our last full Day in Italy and in some ways it seems like we just got here and in others we're very ready to go home. But we've still got Milan to go through. We walk a few blocks to the bus stop, then transfer to the subway. The subway stops at the train station so we have to stop and take pictures (See last entry) We have to go through the Milan Cathedral The Gothic cathedral took five centuries to complete and is the fourth-largest church in the world. We wonder though the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II knowing that our afternoon tour will come through here. We had coffee and biscotti on the piazza in front of the Cathedral. we window shopped our way to the tour bus stop. After lunch we stopped at the sports store next to the bus stop to pick up World Cup Shirts.
Our bus tour hit the highlights, like La Scala and the fashion center of the world, (Via Monte Napoleone, Via della Spiga, Via Sant'Andrea, Via Manzoni and Corso Venezia) and Sforza Castle, but the whole reason we tolerated another tour was at the end when we went to Santa Maria delle Grazie which is where The Last Super is. Tickets to see it are very hard to get if you're not with a tour. Yes, it was beautifal and worth seeing while we were there. But honestly, at this point in the trip we are ready to go home. Todd and Chris have dropped off the bikes and are in Milan so we arrange to meet at The Four Seasons for our last supper in Italy.
Overall, while this was the longest and most ambitious trip we've ever taken, I have to say it was a huge sucess. Paige is now away at college and Ryan a high schooler so I know that our time together like this is limited. I'd do it all again in a heartbeat. Memories of Wakawaka www. playing all over, (I don't know why its not over in the US as much )crazed soccer fans, friendly people and unforgettable history will last a lifetime.
