We land in Bari and I feel like I've been through a time warp. This place was exactly as it should have been in the 60’s. I mean, I expected to see Sophia Loren walking down the stairs from the plane to the terminal. We got the rental car without issue and headed out to Noci. Being the OCD traveler I am, I had previously googled the masseria so I had cheat notes to follow. Damn good thing! Little hint for navigating in Italy: you need to know where you want to go AND all the towns in between so you know you’re going the right way. The entire time we were there I don’t think I saw any signs saying East or West; only town names and an arrow. Fortunately, that’s what I did for my notes because I’m paranoid about not knowing where I going. After a bunch of turns and questions about my sense of direction, we found the place and couldn't have been more pleased. It was a quaint little place with a gorgeous pool and grounds. We stayed in the Trulli at the end so it was very private and quiet. Trulli are only found in this area of Puglia and look kinda like windmills without wings. We did a tour of nearby Alberobello which is filled with them and really nice. Great Olive oil here! We buy some along with some balsamic and truffles. All we need to do is find a market or a bakery. Off we go in search of one. An hour later we find one back in Noci and not only does the market have foccacia but wine and fresh cherry tomatoes. We head back to the masseria and munch as Ryan tests out the pool. Very relaxing day. Good thing because we have reservations at some other place for dinner which ended up 1 ½ hours away. We left early so we could find it before dark and that was a smart thing too. Seriously, 4-wheeled drive would have made me feel better as we drove there. When we get there no one speaks English except for the entertainment. This guy went to California last year so he’s the resident expert on Americans and the only one who will try to tell us what’s going on. Even with Ryan’s basic Italian, we weren’t making any friends. It was weird. Mostly good food, the steak tasted like liver, but really strange atmosphere. Just really freaky being stared at as if we had signs on proclaiming "Crazy people who think they can eat here". And we had reservations! Go figure.
