Morning comes to soon and we have to head to the airport. After breakfast we get the car to take us to the airport and head out. About a 1/4 mile away we find the resturant that the waitress recommended. Not exactly a short walk but the driver says it is a great resturant so we have yet another thing to put on out list of things to do next trip. Schiphol is a good airport to have to spend a long time in. Ryan found a piano to play. The Rijksmuseum Amsterdam Schiphol is a unique joint initiative of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. Along with this, there is a casino and lots of shopping. All too soon we have to elbow our way through the crowds who don't understand the concept of boarding by rows and head back to JFK and home.
Overall, it was a good trip. Not being very social people I have glossed over a lot of the cruise stuff but even that was good. The people we shared a dinner table were all very nice and we enjoyed talking with all of them. Usually, that's the part of a cruise we like the least but this time it was actually enjoyable. We got to the point of looking forward to seeing them. Wild people, we are! The crew's service was excellent. We tended to go more for the buffet dinners up stairs more for the view than the food and so got to know more of the crew/staff up there. Ryan got to use a lot of spanish with the crew and a few passengers. Instead of always heading back to the ship we would eat locally sometimes. We tried to do the formal brunch but it was just too much of a circus for me. Too crowded and too much food. We enjoyed the daily trivia game at 4pm and got to know the bartender real well. The guest lecturer was Jay Christofferson and he spoke three days on Marine life. Given Ryan's interest in Marine biology, this was a big hit. I never got to the fitness center but I walked many, many laps around the top deck every morning. (Even one when it was raining and so windy I stayed to the inside for fear of blowing overboard) Ryan and I hit the pool a couple times and the hot tubs a few more. Ryan and Chris took a few photoshop classes. I kind of wanted to take some of the dance classes but after the incident with the bike in Amsterdam I didn't dare. Hiking is easy, dancing is stressful! Chris got a new watch, duty free. Ryan got a backpack. We bought Paige a puzzel of Van Gogh's Sunflowers. I bought yarn to crochet with. Yup, overall it was a good trip for all.
