We woke up at 6am and left for the train station. As has been the theme of our trip it poured rain for our truck across the city. We spent most of the day on the train transferring from one city to the next and got to Avignon around 6 to meet aunt mathilda and uncle Steve. We hopped in the car and enjoyed the scenic views of southern France. We stayed in a small town called Vaison la Romaine with wineries all around us, it was beautiful. Our hotel (la fete on Provence) was not east to find but it was spectacular. It had a rooftop terrace and a great view. Definitely a step up from what we have been staying in. We had some wines that uncle Steve had picked up and watched the sunset before going out for dinner. We went to a small indoor restaurant where we enjoyed some more wine and had a great dinner and dessert catching uncle Steve and aunt mathilda up on all our adventures thus far. Afterwards we walked in the streets and took in the atmosphere as it was the French national holiday so there was a concert going on outside. I had an amazing first night in southern france.
Fun fact: to prevent wine from being damaged by change in temperature or light exposure it is often wrapped in sheets of newspaper.
