This morning we got up and enjoyed our view for a little bit longer while having tea on the back porch. We then hopped into the car and headed to a small town close by where we had a typical French breakfast, just some bread, cheese, and fruit while sitting outside on the picnic table. While we dis get lost along the way it was great seeing the back country side and all the vineyards. We then drove to Arles and checked into yet another great hotel. Aunt Mathilda has great taste on accommodations because it was a winner for sure. The balcony in our room overlooked the old roman colosseum found in the city, it was incredible.
In the afternoon we walked around the town, went in the colosseum and had some gelato. We walked down by the water and then around in the town where we saw the cafe where van Gogh painted his cafe de la nuit. It was cool to see because we have that painting in our house but I don't think they did a very good job of preserving it as the cafe now looks very commercial.
When we were in Spain there were bull fights, as this is one of the things they are known for but there was also a bull fight in Arles in the colosseum when we were there. Uncle Steve was interested but after we heard about the treatment of the bulls in Spain we had no interest in watching it.
Then we went back to our hotel and enjoyed the indoor pool and spa area while just relaxing before dinner. After a few drinks outside we headed to dinner. Uncle Steve got escargo as an appetizer so of course I gave it a try. And to be honest I rather enjoyed it. It's a little intimidating at first as they came right in the shells, but once you pull them out you just dip them in the broth and then enjoy. They were a little chewy but they just taste like the sauce. On the walk home we decided it was time to see aunt Mathilda and uncle Steve plank so they did on the parking pillars. We got some great pictures and had many many laughs about it. We then retired to bed for the night.
Fun fact: well this fact isn't really all that fun but bulls in bull fights are quite abused before being put in the ring. They have their ribs jabbed so they are bruised and they sit chained down in the dark for multiple days. They are also fed laxatives so they are weak and dehydrated before the "fight". They will have their horns trimmed (to impair their sensory and spatial abilities) and are drawn towards the movement of the blanket not the colour red as many people believe. It is really not a fair fight or a type of entertainment I'm interested in.
