Hey all!!!
So am now in Phnom Penh, which is the capital of Cambodia and about a five hour bus ride from Siam Reap.Had a bit of a mission getting here since I lost my bus ticket and had to buy another and wait round for a couple of hours with my huge rucksack but all good now.Met up with a couple of US girls and we are all staying at the same hostel by the lake, awesome views over the water, v chilled
Spent yesterday doing the sights, vising the Killing Fields and the S21 prison museum...basically these were where over 20000 camobidans were first imprisoned for nothing more than being educated..the Khymer rouge were an ultra communist group that believed the educated were parasites on the working class and so imprisoned them. nyway, frm the s21 prison where they tortured them, they took them to killing fields outside town and murdered them into mass graves. Out of the 20000 only 7 survived i believe, or something like that,
Its not pleasant and in the fields themselves you see the graves that have been dug up as pits, but there are still graves all over the place not exhuimed and as you walk there are bits of clothin everywhere on the ground under the soil and buts of bones lying in teh soil as well. Trul awful, also the have a huge pagoda, at least four english stories high filled to the brim with 8000 skulls as a memorial to the deal.Macabre.
The went to the royal palace which really isnt all that, and also to the silver pagoda where there is a solid silver floor ( but not shiny boo hoo) and a crystal buddha, and also a solid gold buddha with encrusted diamons,
I have decided that for christmas this year any and all of you are welcome to buy me a solid gold buddha, diamonds are optional but welcomed!
