On our first day in Siem Reap, we did very little! The room was good, comfy bed, dark, quiet and good shower! We had a great nights sleep to recover from the day before!
We went for a walk around the town, but there wasn't a great deal around! A few shops and restaurants, and that was about it. It was quite developed in the bit where we were staying, but it became less so as we walked around. We stopped for lunch and had a game of pool!! Then went back to the room, via a market, for a snooze! We'd just about caught up on our sleep and were feeling pretty good!
We went out for dinner and found a nice restaurant that also seemed to be a discotheque for locals! We were tempted, but opted for the night market instead!
We wandered round buying goodies for a couple of hours and then stopped in a nice bar at the back! Paul found beer Laos, so was happy! We stayed way too late, and finally went to bed around 1am!
This wouldn't have been too bad if we hadn't decided to get up to see Angkor Wat in the sunrise!! We got 3 hours sleep and felt a bit sick!!
Paul was not a happy bunny and couldn't see why we needed to be there so early!!!
We jumped in a tuk tuk at 5am and made our way! It was pitch black and surprisingly cold!!
We were there by about 5.30am, and had to use a torch to make our way to a spot, ready for the sunrise.
We figured it was still a way off, so had a quick brew, which was very needed.
As time went on, we started to see the silhouette of Angkor Wat, until eventually, the sun came up and we could see it in all its glory! It was very impressive, but I think we both expected it to be slightly bigger!! Although, it's not really until you start walking around it that you realise how big it is!!
We stopped for breakfast before heading in to explore. We went up to the top level, where you got a good view, and walked all around the outside. It was very impressive.
On our way around the edge we saw lots of monkeys! They were really friendly and cute and let us get really close. It was a bit bizarre really and a great experience!
After a few hours, we got back in the tuk tuk and went to the next temple. There are loads around, and people spend a week going around them, but we decided that two was enough.
The second one had lots of faces all over it. Completely different to Angkor Wat, but equally as interesting!
It was baking hot, and we were starting to wilt! Lots of steep steps everywhere was slowly killing us! By about 11.30am, we gave up and stopped for lunch. We then got back in our tuk tuk, and went back to our hotel.
We were shattered, and spent most of the afternoon in bed!!
We went out for dinner and a couple of drinks, then went back for an early night.
