Arrived in Melbourne in a heavy downpour which almost felt like the tropics!
It took us about 10 mins to get to the gate.
Caught the bus into the city and a well needed coffee.
Arranged to meet Claire at the Grand Prix where she was working so caught a tram 96a down to Middle Park. There was a Chinese couple sitting opposite who hadn't realised that this was an express tram and anxiously started pressing the 'next stop' button as we sailed passed Crown Casino!
Their English, although better than my Cantonese was a bit lacking as I tried to explain to them that they would have to catch another tram back to the casino!
We walked down to Beaconsfield Parade and had a walk in the area where my grandparents used to live. Then back for lunch in a nearby cafe with Claire before she had to return to work and we caught the train out to Box Hill followed by a 2.5 km walk to the Box Hill Motel from the station. Dropped our bags, had a cuppa and a stretch then back into the city for dinner, wisely choosing the bus back to the station rather than our feet!
We were a little early so had a beer at Southbank, then met Claire at Crown Casino and ate at a Thai outdoor event where Claire's boyfriend was working. As we were walking past a restaurant we could see a man inside having what appeared to be a massage as he sat with other guests at a table. He seemed very floppy and we then wondered if he was in fact having the 'Heimlich Maneuver' performed on him!
Claire drove us out to her share house which was great then to our motel where we slept well.

Chris Waller Watch out for fish bones in your Tom Yum soups! Kerry half choked on one in Thailand some years back!! I’m not sure too many Thai locals would be familiar with the Heimlich maneuver in any case!!!
Kerry Well it wasn't exactly a choke, more like the fish bone piercing my oesophagus just a little bit more every time I inhaled a breath........causing increasing anxiety.......particularly with the eyes of the whole beachfront cafe on me ....... thank god for that Thai fella producing a banana to swallow...... I'll never forget that cure or that Tom Yum Soup!!!!!
Paul Waller Thanks for the warning! We'll avoid the Tom Yuk soup then! Had a lovely Green Curry last night. I seemed to be the only person sweating profusely!
