Day 5. Left Arkaroola early to cross the beautiful Gammon Ranges to Copley for coffee and pasties. Road pretty good with some waterways to cross but made good progress through Lyndhurst sighting the huge open cut coal mines at Leigh Creek. Stopped for lunch at old stone building ghost town of Farina. Very interesting historic town where the old Ghan cameleers once were based, as well as head of line for the Old Ghan Railway. Visited the old cemetery and noticed the separate Afghan plots. Onto Marree on good dirt and partly bitumen roads, taking a short drive down the Strezlecki and Birdsville Tracks before checking into the old 1870s Marree Hotel. Dinner in the pub tonight after a few beers around the front bar chatting with visitors from afar. A great day! Tomorrow we head up the Oodnadatta Track and into the Outback following the Old Ghan route. A big wide country so desolate but beautiful.
