Day 24. Today we must leave lovely Parry Lagoon and move east to Kununnurra, as after 6,000km we have then reached our halfway point of The Great Northern Adventure. Day 23. Today we drove 80 km into Township of Kunnunnurra, Western Australia along the back road following the Ord River. Fishing for barramundi was on the agenda and we came across a big open section looking out to the big mesa called Houseroof Hill. We heard a massive splash upstream so out came the binoculars to see a huge crocodile opening his jaws on a water bird. Day 22. Rose early to drive down to Parry Lagoon, a national register site for bird life and salties on the lower Ord River floodplain. Lagoon full of water lilies in flower and water birds. A large crocodile cruising the shallows. Then 20km onto Wyndham where we spent a lazy day checking out the old pioneers cemeteries, wharf area and old town shops and hotel. Day 21. Down the Gibb River Road and again across the flowing Pentecost River crossing up to the famous El Questro Station. Crossed the Pentecost yet again and finally arrived. Straight to the coffee shop and a quick look at the boat ramp for the Chamberlain River Gorge. Lots of grey nomads at El Questro. Day 20. Fished the Pentecost River early morning with magnificent views to the reddish pink mesas of the Cockburn Range in the distant. Some smoke about the bluffs from dry season burning off. Lots of small fish rising and a sand shark but riiver bank very muddy so we took caution not to slip as a large crocodile approached from the middle of the river.
