Today (July 9) was our last whole day in Europe. On the recommendations of a few people we've met in Munich, we decided to catch a train to Salzburg, adding European country number nine to our list - Austria. The trip took around 2 hours and then we headed down to the old town area taking in the fantastic views along the river as we did so. Overlooking Salzburg is the Festung Hohensalzburg (the castle). We made the climb up the hill to the castle entrance and got some great photos of the city. Since we didn't have a lot of time, we decided to give the castle a miss and made our way back down into the old town. Salzburg was the setting for the Sound of Music and so with some tourist brochures in hand we managed to find some of the locations from the film. Salzburg's other claim to fame is as the birthplace of Mozart and so we also tracked down the house where he was born. On the way back to the station we walked through the Mirabellgarten, another filming location in the movie, and got some of our own pictures of the brilliantly colourful gardens and water features. Then we were back on the train to Munich for some rest before the flight home begins tomorrow.
We will be flying to Abu Dhabi again for a 13 hour stop over and then it'll be onto Singapore and finally we'll arrive in Brissy Saturday morning. Looking forward to catching up with you all again soon.
