After a 10 hour overnight bus journey from Ayutthaya we have arrived into Chiang Mai, the supposed second city of Thailand. As per usual with overnight buses, we managed to get little sleep and have spent most of the day in a bit of a haze. We have managed to meet up with 2 mates from home, Ciaran and Gerry, and plan to go and see some Thai kickboxing tonight which should be good.

Our 2 night stay in Ayutthaya was enjoyable but we both felt that one night would have been sufficient. We went around all the different Wat seeing amongst all things the famous Buddha head overgrown by a fig tree in Wat Mahata and the three pagodas of Wat Si Sanphet. It was our first real taste of Buddha temples in Thailand and we really enjoyed it.

The plan is to stay in Chian Mai for a few days before we head off into the hills for a trek, duration to be confirmed, before we finally bid farwell to Thailand (via Chiang Ria) and hello to Laos. Till next time
