Hong Kong is our first steps away from South East Asi and into China. However, this is the most western city we've been to since Australia. With all the added comforts that these western standards bring, there is the added expense which we've found takes a while to get use to but it's something we've had to do and we've really enjoyed this city, easily one of our favourite cities to date.
We've been keeping ourselves busy running around the city. We arrived and went straight to the travel agency who we are booking our trans-siberan trip with. Left the passports with them and 4 days later (yesterday) we now have our Russian & Mongolian visas.
Much of the time has been spent seeing the sights, riding the Peak Tram up to Victoria Peak for incredible views over the city (would be better if there wasn't so much smog), watching the impressive Symphony of Lights (buildings on both sides of the harbour are lit up every night at 8pm in what is now the largest permanent light and sound show in the world) and of course visiting Disneyland Hong Kong. We spent a full day out at Disney and it was brilliant craic meeting Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Woody, etc. The firework display at the end of the night over the fairytale castle was really impressive and it was a day well spent.
Today we finally leave Hong Kong, catching the ferry across to mainland China, to Shenzhen to catch a flight to Guilin. We had intended to travel by train across China but we've learnt that you must book at least 4 days in advance to get a seat and in the end we've discovered that flying is cheaper, all good. So we must say goodbye to our western comforts and hello China, our home for the next month.
