Moon Valley
The bus. The overnight bus....omg complete luxury! Huge seats, reclined to so almost horizontal, and had 3 seats all for meeee! Perfect. All for £17. 440 miles. that's further from me to my mums! So we all got on the bus down below (the scum in the cheaper seats all squished together upstairs) , settled down then 10 mins later the lights were off and we were plunged into complete darkness! I read my book for a while but then sleep took over completely.
One (of many) decisions I made when researching this trip was the size of my bag. I read many forums and listened to loads of advice but the bag I decided on was the Osprey Farpoint 40. It's tiny and everyone has commented how jealous they are and some have even said they can't stand it and are sending stuff home, or giving stuff away! It's carry on size for flights and absolutely perfect for taking everywhere else with me. I can walk for hours with it with ease. While everyone else is waiting in line to store their luggage in the hold under the bus, I feel happier and more secure just taking it on with me. It sits perfectly between my legs (but in this case on the empty seat next to me, with a seatbelt knotted through the handle while I slept). It holds everything I need and even with the extra 5 tops, long and short sleeved, that I've added since, it's STILL not full to overflowing!
Anyway, that aside, 12 hours later I woke up in San Pedro de Atacama. I walked straight to the center and booked the tours Trevor recommended to me. The 1st one was at 4pm. The Moon Valley Tour. To be honest, I wasn't that interested but the guy at the tour place said "coming to San Pedro and not seeing Moon Valley is like going to Paris and not seeing the Eiffel Tower". Ok fine then I'll go. "Located in the Sierra Obate depression, 2550 meters above sea level, it has different visual attractions that turn it in an extraordinary place called "Moon Valley" because of its similar look to lunar soil. The Moon Valley is a perfect place to contemplate desertic nature, without flora, fauna and humidity" There's your wee bit of info. Def no stray dogs here! Anyway, it was cloudy. Need I say more? I took loads more pics than I'm showing as it was incredible but there was no sun till the end of the day so the pics don't do it justice. We watched the sunset. Again I've seen better. Early start tomorrow for next tour. An all day one. xxx
