paul and tassy's adventure
we got up at 5.30 and made our way to the hostel were we were going to meet our group, after a long video and safety talk we got in our groups of 10, and made a shopping list for the next 3 days, in our group we had 1 irish girl (dee), 3 austrians(chris, alex and heidi), a french girl(estell) and an isreal(guy), 'o' and of course a welsh and an english! we went to woolworths and got $200 worth of food for 3 days!! also about $200 worth of beer! after packing the jeep with our supplies we went to the boat to take us to fraser! we arrived at fraser about 11am and drove to lake mckenzie, the roads were sand and they were massive bumps all the way!only 4wd are alowed on fraser and we now know why!
lake mcken was amazing, the sand was as white as snow and the water was a turquoise colour and so clear, it was raining so we didnt get to enjoy it as much!
we set off to find a place to camp on the beach(75 mile beach) we found a place and set the tents up, then had a bbq! after dinner when it was dark we headed for the sea (but u cant go in coz of the sharks) we all sat round the candles (not allowed fires on fraser) and played drinking games and watched the stars!
That night it rained and the tent leaked, me and paul were soaked, and freezing so at about 6am we went in the car and put the heating on!
the next day we headed north for indian head and champagne pools! we wernt supposed to drive between 11am and 4pm coz the tides in!but we did and it was so scary, the car kept skiding and sliding everywhere on the sand, we'd seen pictures of jeeps turning over due to the sand and speeding, so it was really scary! once we arrived at indian head it made it all worth while because at the top of the hill (indian head) we went to the viewing area and saw a whale dive out of the sea and also dolphins, turtles, rays and sharks, such an experience!
we then headed for the pools, we saw a dingo as we were getting back in the car! the surf was really good(sam and neil, u'd love it) but there are sharks every where, great whites have been seen in shallow water!
that night we found a great spot sheltered by trees, and set up camp! me, paul and dee stayed in the jeep coz we didnt want to stay in the tent again!
on the last day we went to the ship wreck and eli creek which is a stream that flows from the rain forest the sea, and its consantly hot!
paul drove back to the main island and i think that was his best part of the trip, its like being on a roller coster, you get thrown everywhere!
when we arrived back at hervey bay we went to the hostel and had all you can eat pizza with everyone and watched 'old school'! the next morning we drove to brisbane, and thats where we are now, do we'll up date you in a few days! speak soon xxxx
p.s, unfortunetly we have to cut our traveling short because paul has to resit some exams! im thinking of staying in sydney and working, but due to a lack of funds i think im coming home as well, not sure till we get to syd!never mind, we've had an awsome time anyway!
