Byron Bay
December 3rd - 5th
Stayed at Broken Head camping ground which was about ten minute's drive out of Byron Bay and had the best facilities we'd had so far. Distance out of the town centre also meant there were no deadlegs, hippies or 'schoolies' around who all seem to dominate the town centre. Lots of people in the local supermarket with no shoes on - scummers!
Byron Bay is supposed to be very arty and a bit cultural, but looks like an excuse for a load of drop-outs to grow dreads, pick up a guitar, spark a reefer and watch life pass them by to me - definitely couldn't live here…
The weather was still pretty overcast, but we got stuck into a surf lesson and both loved it. Had a great morning and surfed for around three hours and both managed to stand up a few times though drinking that volume of sea water can't be good for you.
Pretty stiff the next day, but went for a run on the beach about 30 seconds from the campsite. The water was pretty dirty and scummy which was a surprise. I also got barracked on my way to the shower by some old boy Australian who called me a 'useless b******' for forgetting my shower gel - how pleasant.
Got fish and chips overlooking the beach on our last night which was a cool way of finishing our stay before a predictable downpour ensued.
