Dumaresque Dam, Gibraltar National Park
December 1st / 2nd
Next stop was slightly inland off the coast at Dumaresque Dam. Looked nice in the guidebook photos, less impressive in torrential rain and perpetual dark cloud cover, but it was free - hurrah.
Stopped at Dorrigo National Park on the way to see the 'impressive sky walk' which had literally zero visibility given the heavy cloud.
We parked right next to the Dam and had a walk round an edge of it for 5 minutes until we got soaked. Still managed to get a BBQ in, in the evening though.
Pretty much solid rain for the whole of the next day as we drove back to the Pacific Highway, checking out Woolamombi Falls after a recommendation from a couple the previous night. Pretty cool, but waterfalls are definitely starting to lose their appeal on this trip! At least we managed to get a decent view of them after the clouds cleared a bit.
Checked out Glen Innes further north which sounds and looks very Scottish, no sign of any deep fried Mars Bars though unfortunately. We saw the 'Standing Stones' which were essentially a poor man's imitation of Stone Henge erected by the locals to give them something to do.
Stayed the night at Mulligan's camping area in Gibraltar National Park which was at the end of a 9km drive down a dirt track. The place was absolutely deserted and it didn't stop raining the whole time we were there. Managed a bit of a walk, but had to turn back as the river had burst its banks on the path so spent all of our time cooped up in the van.
Reckon we were at least a couple of kilometres from the next nearest person so spent a very eerie night in the van as the whole atmosphere changed to something resembling the Blair Witch Project. Left very early the next morning to get away from the place and stupidly paid for our stay in the honesty box - disastrous.
