This was the precise reason that we were here so we did not waste any time before visiting the Perito Moreno glacier. This ice flow advances along two valleys where it meets the lake. Officially the furthest south inhabited city in the world, Ushuaia nestles on the southern tip of Tierra del Fuego overlooking the Beagle Channel. We arrived after a strenuous 11 hour day bus that crossed from Argentina into Chile, took a ferry across to Tierra del Fuego and then another border crossing from the Chilean side back o the Argentinian side! Such a shame that we arrived in this town at 10am because the only connecting bus to Ushuaia was at 9am! There is nothing to do in Rio Gallagos on the best of days but when its raining and the blustery wind makes the rain sting you face, the temprature feels somewhere around -10 degrees (kelvin) and to top it all its a Sunday, then watching paint dry seems like fun!
