Sunday 19th Feb
Went to to the Karawara Gorge Bridge to watch the lemmings throw themselves over the edge. Luckily for them they were attached by bungee cords! Jen wouldn't let me do it, not for any fear for my safety but more because of the £100 price tag. Good fun to watch though. We spent the afternoon at Arrowtown, a living community that started life as a gold rush town in the 1860s. It looks like something from a movie set. It was heavily developed by Chinese immigrants who built their own communities as they searched for gold. Their homes were very small and sparse.
Monday 20th February
Spent the day driving from Queenstown to Omarama on the edge of the Mount Cook National Park. The weather could not have been better as we drove the 30 miles along the shore of Lake Pukatipu to the base of Mount Cook. No surprise that the views were wonderful. The mountain was snow capped and there were many glaciers feeding from the slopes. The lake itself was a bright, milky blue due to the ice crystals suspended in the water. Our only problem ws that we dropped the camera and the battery would not charge. I had to resort to the iPhone-no contest against the cameras with massive lenses that others were using. I had lens envy! Hence the photos are a bit grainy.
(PS) The camera is now fixed.
