Friday 17th Queenstown
Walked around the Jubilee Park along the shoreline. Watched some locals playing a form of golf with frisbees! There were metal baskets set up all around the park amongst the trees and the idea is to get the frisbee in the basket in the lowest number of throws. Each hole has a "tee" and a number of throws for par. It is very popular. The highlight of the park was a black labrador that adopted anyone who was prepared to pick up the ball and throw it. The dog retrieved the ball and actually tossed its head to throw the ball at your feet. Remarkable sight. The owner had any easy time of it.
In the afternoon we took a steam ship ride across Lake Wakatipu to a farm homestead for afternoon tea. How quaint. We also saw demonstrations of a sheep dog working and also sheep shearing. Our host was a kiwi with a wicked and dry sense of humour. As he said it was up to us to separate the facts from the bulls***! Great fun.
Saturday 18th.
Walked the 2.5 miles into town along the lake. Mooched around a craft market, had nice lunch and then went to a Kiwi reserve. This is the only chance to see a Kiwi as they are nocturnal.
