Paul's World Tour
Hi everybody from Fiji
Having a fantastic time living the dream around the South Pacific islands. Cook Islands were amazingly gorgeous. We managed to venture off the main islands of Rarotonga to a beautiful outer island called Aitutaki which was even more like a picture postcard from the Bounty adverts (and by Bounty I'm talking about the adverts for the chocolate and not the adverts for the kitchen roll with those 2 bearded blokes dressed up like housewives!!). After 3 luxurious days on the outer island our bank accounts could stand no more and it was off to Fiji and the reality of dorm beds!!
However before we could get off the remote islands we had to experience the delights of Aitutaki International Airport. I truly believe that Team Glasgow and the rest of BAA could really learn something from this business model (worth trying to talk up a business trip to the south pacific on expenses). The 'international' airport consisted of one open air hut, one fire engine and one outside toilet. No political debates about rail links - rather a single lane dirt track to access the rest of the island - nice! The Air Rarotonga experience was even more eventful as we got on a 10 seater plane with no cabin crew and no division between passengers and pilots - what happened to the bullet proof door for all commercial aircraft since Sept 11th!!!
Having made it to Fiji we were all ready to be signed up onto the big green **** truck for the feejee experience. Our guide was Mamma T and she was really cool and encouraged us all to be one big happy family - and so we did! It was an amazing experience and we got to see the real Fiji, the local culture and so on and so forth. The highlight was visiting a village were we all took part in a Kava ceremony - it was meant to get you high but it tasted like muddy water, looked like muddy water and had all the after effects from drinking muddy water! Of course, in order to be accepted into the local village we had to adorn the backpacker uniform - a sorong or sulu as its known locally. No, its not a skirt in the photos!!
Anyhow, best go - next stop is New Zealand.
Hope everyone is well.
Best wishes
Paul
