Today, was another attempt to see the macaws at the clay lick...even though Oscar promised the weather would cooperate, by 4am it was pouring rain again. So, no 445am wake up knocking. Since we are all in bed by 9pm (no electricity makes that decision easy), we are all awake by 630-700am.
We spent the morning relaxing as the rain prohibited any activities and we were back on the long boat heading out by 1030. It was a 3 hour trip to Refugio Amazonas the biggest lodge of the three that we have stayed in. It is still the same open air style, but we have our own bathroom tonight! Still no hot water, but at least it is in the privacy of your own room. Also, still no doors on any rooms and no windows...it is totally open to the outside. But after 4 days, we are actually getting a bit used to it.
I did a farm tour, which was pretty cool, while Ashley did more bird stuff and Katelyn bonded with her book. Tonight, Ashley is doing a night bird thing (owls I think) and Katelyn and I are having a wine and a beer. We are all happy!!
Happiness was short lived though, as when we arrived back in our room, Katelyn took a look around the bathroom and saw a rat in the wall. It is made of bamboo and you could see his eyes shining and his nose twitching. We went to the lobby and a hotel guy came to check it out. Of course it was gone! We went to bed, but could hear it scratching in the walls all night...so while the girls slept fine, I heard every sound.
Tomorrow is Lima and most importantly a hot shower. I have barely taken off my Axsium baseball hat the entire time in the Amazon...I don't want to scare my fellow travelers or the wildlife!
