Last day of work....this week has gone by so quickly. After 7 days at the Westin, it was time to pack up and get ready for the next chapter of the trip.
The students were all ready and had submitted their presentations prior to the 8am deadline. They had an hour to do some final run-throughs before presenting in front of the room and the "client". A Coach from a different room played the "client" and for the most part our teams did amazing. They created some very compelling slide decks and provided some excellent recommendations for the clients merger and acquisition issues. We had the closing ceremony and it was time for the student and the coaches to scatter to their respective next locations.
I headed to the Hyderabad airport where I camped in the Premium Club for several hours before my flight to Delhi. My flight wasn't until 7p, but not being familiar with the departure process, I thought better early than rushed. It ended up being quite painless, and my plane was a quick 2 hours.
One part of Indian culture that I experienced has been the Indian Head Wobble. http://goindia.about.com/od/greetingscommunication/a/head-wobble.htm I learned about it a few years ago, when I was misunderstanding the non-verbal communication by my Indian employees. I would ask a question or state a comment and they would wobble their head side-to-side. I thought that meant yes, when in fact it has various meanings, including: I understand, maybe, Ok, or just I hear you. It doesn't mean they have agreed to do what you are asking. I am quite used to it, but some of my colleagues were not aware and were intrigued when our entire class were wobbling their heads.
Mallika (http://www.airawat.com/) our rock star travel agent and her husband, met me at the airport and introduced me to Renu, who would be our driver for the next 5 days (until we fly out of Jaipur). We drove through a combination of crazy traffic and beautiful tree lined boulevards to the Le Meridien. As with the Westin, it is a very modern and upscale hotel. They gave me two rooms, one a 4 room suite with a really cool shower/bathroom and a connecting room that was normal.
Paige, Ashley and Katleyn weren't arriving until 1am from London, so I enjoyed some chinese noodles in the restaurant on the 20th floor. It had a great view overlooking the city and the food was a nice change from the curries! I crawled into bed and slept until the phone rang at 2:30am when the girls arrived. We got everyone settled and in bed, so get ready for a day of touring Delhi!
