Hey Guys!!!
So, here it is, the eagerlly awaited first blog entry!!! Time: 21:16, Location: Garden House Hostel, San Telmo, Buenos Aires.
Arrived after a very long and very cramped journey on DELTA airlines with a charming 8hr wait in Atlanta sandwiched between an 8hr and 10hr flight respectively. Fun times were had trying to find a sleeping position that didn`t leave either a limb completely numb or your neck completely twisted, but we arrived safe into B.A at 8am local time.
Taxi straight to the Garden House Hostel in the San Telmo district where we were surprised to find a double room with en suite and private balcony!! Nice. Slept most of the day as we were both quite jetlagged having stayed up almost 24hrs. The hostel put on the most amazing BBQ in the evening though - the steak was incredible, best I`ve ever had and the chorizo sausage was also a big hit! Argentinians don`t eat til 10-11pm which is hard to get used to and if you go out like we did last night to a place called the red door where you knock at a red door, surprisingly, and someone lets you in quickly, people head out about 2am and don`t go home til 6-7am.
Met some cool people though, most of whom leave today which sucks a bit but hopefully some new ones will move in soon. One girl, Jess, from Cape Town, had attempted to drive from the southern tip of Africa to Scotland and had the most incredible stories.
Went to a River Plate football game today with A guy called Ian from Manchester and his friend Mike from New Zealand. Absolutely massive stadium and the match was a home game so lots of hard core fans (they call them radicals) were there. They enter the stadium last and the whole crowd cheers for them to enter. Not sure how you become a radical but think it`s something to do with violence - they look pretty hard anyway! Not a great game unfortunately - River lost 1-0, but the atmosphere was great with people dancing and jumping and chanting all the way through.
We`re hopefully gonna start Spanish Lesson tomorrow as it`s quite hard to get around with nothing. No one really speaks English here at all so we have our noses in the phrase book a lot of the time which is pretty embarassing and slow. We were ordering some food at the modern art museum, MALBA. and the waiter walked off half way through my order which Tim thought was hilarious! Had to wait for another guy to come over in the end - haha oops!
Still not much clue as to our route yet, if we get Spanish lessons we`re here for at least a week but we`ll probably want to head out of the city after that as the roads here are crazy big and it`s fairly noisy and expensive. Want to give it a chance though as we`re still in that phase of finding our way aound and walking a lot cos we can`t work out the buses! Will keep you posted anyhow!
