Having recovered from last nights antics, we were woken up today with seans maple syrup pancakes, ready to seize the day at the beach! Only the problem was that a giant raincloud seemed to be heading in our direction! Nonetheless, being the tourists that we are, we decided to head out in search of some food and then hit the beach. Possibly the biggest error we could have made to date.
A foot out the door and the monsoon began. None of this crappy drizzle we get in the UK, it was a full on tropical storm and we were drenched in seconds. At some point in the middle the rain drops were coming down with some much force it began to hurt! ( can you get 'rain burn'?). Running from restaurant to restaurant, they all seemed closed, with only afew locals looking and laughing at us from inside their houses. It must have been a sight. We eventually 'found refuge' under a gazebo and waited until it settled. It didn't stop however so we decided to simply just walk back, enjoying the rain, and the thunder and lightning directly above us.
Back at the hotel, with it still raining, it was time for a swim, with all of us jumping off the balcony into the water. In hindsight it may not have been the greatest idea with all the lightning above us, but you only live once!
In the evening, with the rain having settled, it was time for another night out! First stop mondo taitu, the hostel we were originally going to stay in, which as it turns out, has a pretty fun bar. The shots were pretty interesting aswell ( I believe mine was on fire). Then it was on to El Barco, a bar made entirely of decking so as to look like a shipwreck. Sean was pretty much in his element here, with Hispanic music playing away the whole night...bocas del toro is becoming quite the party scene!
