Oh my god Iguazu = AMAZING!!!. Most definetly a highlight of the entire trip!!
Got up stupidly early on Saturdy morning to meet guide and do the Argentinian side of the Iguazu falls. Started off when we got off the bus and made our way to an environmentally friendly train that took us to the mian falls that make up Iguazu, The Devil´s Throat or Garganta el Diablo (en Espanol) and oh my god the first glimpse of the huge falls was pretty muhc breathtaking!! Over one million litres of water pours over them a second so much so you cant even see the bottom of the falls for the spray and sheer volume of water! After spednig some time wandering around the walkway oand taking loads of pictures was time to make our way back of the river walkway to get the train again which would take us to the upper circuit before lunch. The upper circuit allowed you to actually walk over the waterfalls and was pretty scary and was a metal path which you could see through!! Did make for good pictures though! Then it was lunch time before doing the lower circuit and the amazing boat ride into the falls!!
The lower circuit was similar to the upper with the walkways although you did get closer to the waterfalls so a little bit wetter at some points but nothing compared to how wet we got on the boat trip!! Had bought pathetic ponchos from street sellers before going into the park and hoped that they would keep us dry but as we were seeing the people coming off the boats in front we were preparing ourselves to be drowned.....and we def were!! haha. The boat was a kind of speedboat that took off from the shore and headed towards the Devil´s Throat and went into the smallers falls beside it before racing around the otherside and doing the exact same. On what I thought was the return to shore we instead went back in the direction of the Devil´s Throat and straight into the smaller waterfalls again where the poncho most certainly gave up and we all got absolutely drowned!! Got bck to shore resemebling drunk rats more than backpackers haha luckily we were just getting on the bus to go back into the town and our hostel where we could shower and get into dry clothes before dinner time and drinks! One too many drinks later and a game of ring of fire it was most def time for bed as the next day we were up again to visit the falls but from the Brazilian side.
It was painful getting up the next morning again so early and we knew it would be the last bed we would have for 24hours as me and Carmel were heding to Rio de Janeiro so it was Adios Argentina and Ola Brazil when we crossed the border and got our last passport stamp of this trip!!
The Brazilian side of Iguazu is higher up than the Argentinan side so offers a panoramic view of the falls which was again spectacular but not as much fun as the Argentine side as you werent as close to the falls. However as the sun was shining the rainbow over the falls was amazing to see!! After spedning the morning wndering around the walkwy it ws then time for one of the best buffet lunches I have ever had!! The choice of food was literally mind blowing had no idea even where to start!! Did eventually decide and after numerous servings it was time to leave and get dropped off at the bus station for our loooong wait on our bus to Rio! Time went by not too badly after spending it on the internet and lazing about in general. Then it was time for our last ever overnight bus!! Woooohooooo. The bus went via Sao Paolo and took us just short of 24hours we were in Rio!! To be greeted by our Irish friends who in classic Team Rave style got their flight dates mixed up so were in Rio for another couple of days!! That night went to yet another amazing buffet of steak where they brought all the food to your table on a constant rotation so after eating about a full cow each we then left for a lie down!! haha.
Yesterday was kind of a dissapointment due to it being RAINING!! Grrrrr so instead of lying on the beach like we had planned we instead got some luncha nd froze on the beach for a bit before spending the rest of the day playing cards and having some tea!! Last night as it was till raining consolded ourseleves with a McDonald´s and our last game of The Game before bed time!
