Arrived in Buenos Aires on Saturday morning after a 14hour bus journey from Mendoza and was excited to see what all the fuss was about as everybody had raved about BA! Didnt get off to best starts as hostel we had booked didnt have reservation and was full but we just popped next door and they had space for the 3 of us! So after a lie down and a shower we headed out to see exactly what BA had to offer and headed for the district of Palermo but got side tracked along the way and ended up wadering the main street which was littered with McDonald´s and Burger Kings literally every other block!! After wandering here long enough we hopped on the subway and headed to Palermo. Palermo didnt quiet live up to its picturesque reputation (it was the middle of winter and we were wandering the gardens haha) so feeling a bit miserable and knowing we had a big night out ahead of us we headed back to get ready before going out for dinner! A litre of beer each to wash down our dinner and we were ready to hit the Millhouse bar, although not quiet sure it was ready for us! haha as it was pretty dead so we livened our own table up with a game of Kings before heading of to Pacha! Pacha most certainly didnt live up to the hype unfort! But still had a good night even if it was spent with a group of English boys acting like typical Brits abroad haha. Made it back into the centre of BA around 7:30am to then go on the hunt for a McDonald´s haha and much to our annoyance they were either closed or only serving breakfast so in the end gave up and went back to the hostel for breakfast before packing to move back to the hostel next door! Where our room wasnt ready so went back out in search of McD´s who were still only serving breakfast so resorted to a Burger King instead before eventually making it to bed around 1pm! Needless to say the rest of the day was spent in bed! haha before going out that night for dinner and some more beer!
Next day we wandered to Recoletta, the most expensive part of BA and where Evita is buried! The graveyard there resembles a small town, with all the tombs lavishly decorated and laid out in a street like pattern. It was the annioversary of Evita´s death this day too so her grave was covered with flowers and pictures! After this we headed back to the hostel as we were off to La Bomba del Tiempo that night, which was a drumming show set in a warehouse! They were amazing!! Had such a good night watching them then was time to head back for food and some more drink at the bar!
Tuesday morning we were off to La Boca on an organised walking tour with the hostel. In theory this seemed a good idea as La Boca has a more unsafe reputation but in practice it was a nightmare! It involved around 50 odd tourist all walking down streets together boarding a public bus and then trying to hear what the guide was saying!! All very frustrating as was soooooo much waiting around so on reaching the highlight of the Boca Juniours Stadium we basically "ran" away and done the tour ourself before heading to our new hostel as the old one was fully booked! But spent near enough no time there as it was TANGO TIME!! Got picked up from hostel and taken to the Complejo Tango theatre and school where we had our first ever tango lesson!! Oh my god it was funny!! None of us had tangoed before and could barely get through the steps for laughing for the hour long lesson! After it was over was time for an amazing dinner before the show began! The show told the story of tango from its beginnings in the San Telmo district of Buenos Aires to present times! The 6 dancers that perfromed the show were incredible and got the audience to particiàte too!!
On Wednesday me and Carmel popped over to Uruguay for the day! Was only an hour on the boat from Buenos Aires to Colonia, an old smugglers port in Uruguay. Here nothing seemed open at first so we had a cuppa sitting in the main square before climbing to the top of the lighthouse then we made our way around the old cobbled streets to the wharf where we had lunch on the riverfront! After a long lunch we browsed the markets and craft stalls before having rest for ice cream before dinner!!
Thursday it was time to say adios to BA as we were off to Puerto Iguazu to see the famous falls!! Got on our second last night bus ever on Thursday after having lunch in sunny Palermo! It was much nicer this time mainly as the sun was shining!!
Arrived at Puerto Iguazu around 2pm today and it is HOT here!! So nice to not have to be wearing THAT alpaca jumper alongside 3 other layers and coud finally get into some summer clothes!! Off to visit the famous falls tomorrow!!
