Major catch up time on the blog, with 3 entries coming in quick succession covering the end of our Scandinavian trip (which was followed by a few weeks at home) then 2 for our first seven weeks in South Africa.
The last couple of weeks of our Scandinavian odyssey were very relaxed, Denmark didn't pose too many challenges and we enjoyed drifting south through Funen at a leisurely pace. We particularly liken Skagen, it's a lovely fishing town right in the north, where we indulged in fresh sea food and made the effort to get up at the crack of dawn to visit the wholesale fish auction. After walking round the building several times where the auction was allegedly taking place we eventually spotted a few stacks of crates with half a dozen blokes crowded round. Although quite small the auction was certainly good fun and was made all the more interesting by a slightly odd guy who insisted on showing us where the exits were and how to open the doors, not sure if he expected we might need to use them in a hurry!
Despite mixed weather we got in a couple of decent walks including one up the highest "mountain" in Denmark, all 147m of it! While not exactly challenging there was a nice view from the top over the autumnal countryside.
Ribe was a fab little town in the south of Funen where we sampled some of the local microbrewery's ale as well as strolling round the stunning streets of Denmark's oldest town.
From there it was a quick dash through Germany, Netherlands and Belgium where we paused for an evening just outside Bruge where we did a final blast of sightseeing before jumping on the ferry at Dunkerque to return home.
So in a few days we head off to South Africa for 12 weeks, the bags are packed and the first 5 weeks already organised when we will be working for board and lodgings on an organic farm.
