We came into the marina at Povoa de Varzim at 9pm on Wednesday in the mist and dark, which was a bit worrying since there are lots of rocks. As seem to be the case in both Spain and Portugal, a man from the marina told us where to moor and helped take the ropes. The marina is even better value than Viana at 18 euros for us, with excellent facilities including a free drink in the local club, plus a very helpful lady who speaks English and provided us with a free yachting guide for Portugal.
On Thursday we took the metro into Porto, a picturesque old city famous for Port wine. We visited 2 port producers (Calem and Vasconcello) for a guided tour of the cellars and a tasting. Paul and Alex had an interesting meal at lunch time, roast sausage, which arrived at the table roasting over a spirit burner.
