Time to head south for Canberra today. We took the coastal route as far as Wollongong via the Royal National Park. There's something about the forests here that make the view of a peaceful river or the coastline all the more spectacular.
We tried in vain to find the pretty harbour that was shown in the guidebook at Wollongong, a quick lunch at McDonald's and inland we went. The landscape changes from forest to pasture, almost as far as the eye could see. Yet most of it empty. A strange sight for us kiwis.
We managed to get a bit of sight seeing in before the light went, when the place becomes a bit of a black pit. You'd never know that they had street lights, we had to use the highbeam in the suburbs as we hunted for a supermarket. Telstra Tower is about the only landmark you can use for navigation at night and it's not that useful being round and looking the same from every angle. Hence, we got lost and drove in many circles before eventually finding our way back to the apartment after half an hour or so.
