Day 9 At Kakadu. Short drive from dull Darwin. Kept waiting for it to become lush rainforest, but it never did. Arrived at Gagidju Crocodile Resort and collapsed for a couple of hours with this bloody flu. Luckil, hotel package had river cruise included, so in 40C and 90% humidity, it was off up the Yellow Water billabong and south crocodile river...not expecting to see any.....were we wrong! Evidently there's a croc for every 20 metres of riverbank. Got to ...

Day 8 Darwin. WWII and Cyclone Tracey didn't knock it over but there's evidence they had a good go at it. Not much to see though. Did our own guided tour in the humidity. Nice musuem/art gallery. Two doses of the flu and a neat afternoon thunderstorm rounded off the day

Day 7 Tennant Creek to Darwin. Darwin...still evolving! First traffic light in 5000 kms. 1/3 of the way done. Pretty uneventful trip today. Virtually nothing on the roads until Adelaide River. Termite mounds just keep getting bigger. Don't think there was a single metre of bush along the way that hadn't been burnt in recent times...and that's a lot of bush. Amazing how quickly the landscape changes at each border. Luckily was overcast most of the way here....

Day 6 Yulara to Tennant Creek. Phew, that's a fair hike (about 1000km). Didn't intend going so far today, but couldn't get in at UFO central. Did get to stop and play marbles though, saw the remnants of the Darwin to Adelaide Solar Challenge (car race) and met a photogenic dromedary! Boy these roads sure are long and straight! Measured one stretch at 30km without a single bend! Lots of landscape changes and we crossed the Tropic of Capricorn, north of Alice S...

Day 5 Still @ Yulara. An even bigger rock..how come it doesn't get as much attention? Is it because it's more deformed and bulbous? Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) is actually more impressive and you can walk on parts of it without upsetting the spirits...it's not very pc to be climbing up Uluru anymore! Sally marked the day by having a small allergy attack on the 30 minute climb..nothing too dramatic and a couple of jabs saw her right....enough to partake of a sumptuo...
