Well its been a interesting experience being back home. Firstly I'm not battling the cold like I thought that I would.
I've been asked alot of questions since my return, which has lead me to write this blog today. Was it what I expected? Not at all... There was far less horse/cattle interaction than I had thought that there would be. However the whole experience was amazing. The heat, the dust, the long days, along with the camp fires, flies and amazing night skies. The people that were part of the experience were truely amazing.
My experience started off being thrown in the deepend, and after day 2 I was wondering if I would survive the 5weeks? Upon leaving the station 5wks later it felt both like a long time and a short time. I was looking forward to the next adventure and meeting up with Josiah - a familiar face and friend, sorry to be leaving the station, that has given in some respects the inner child a chance to breath again - I say inner child as I grew up in remote Golden Bay on a farm/beef farm. A far cry from the Kimberley, however the open spaces, the animals and the ability to be away from calendars and days of the week.
Australia is a vast country, the small road trips between Alice Springs and Uluru gave a slight insight as to just how big the country is. Whilst the drive consumed alot of time and days it was a valued part of the experience.
Biggest complaints about the trip;
1] hands down Qantas, six flights throughout the trip, one of them moved so that I had to leave a day earlier, five of them delayed and one of them cancelled. The cancelled flight made picking up the campervan quite a drama. However like all things it does sort itself out.
2] Kings Canyon, in context I had a lot of people telling me how wonderful the place was, it added 332km to the trip along with 3.5hrs drive time. Whilst the canyon was great, both Josiah and my expectations were pretty high regarding seeing wildlife etc. Wildlife was next to non-existant, we spent maybe 40 minutes there, and we didn't even get out at the resort. Safe to say our expectations were not met.
Other than that it was a great successful trip and I would do it again in a heart beat.
