After a 18 hour bus ride we arrived in Canberra at 6am on Wednesday. Sheila and Tony met us from the coach station at took us back to their house where we are staying whilst we are here. We had a lovely welcome. We each have our own room - we were lucky to get our own bed in Thailand!!
Tony took us to see Auntie Brenda, we brought her some flowers. Again we had another lovely welcome! We went to Tony's golf club for lunch looking out accross the lake. We took Auntie Brenda home and Tony took us to Black Mountain, Telstra Tower and Mt Ainslie which were all lookout points with different views of the city. We then went to the National Museum on Australia, this was good to wonder round. Tony drove us home with a de-tour to see some wild kangaroos. We played pool and had a beautiful dinner.
Yesterday Tony and Sheila took us to The War Memorial, this was amazing but very sad. They unveiled the new cafe and memorial fountain and we later saw it on the news. We then went New Parliment House and had a nice lunch on the terrace in the sunshine. We then headed to Red Hill Lookout, saw the views over Canberra and the posh houses nearby. We drove around the different embassy buildings, each country had a different style. We went to the park on the way back and saw lots of kangaroos close up and took photos. We also stopped off at General Governor's House which was lovely and we couldn't believe how close we could get without any fences in the way. It was Italian evening tonight - another lovely dinner with the wine we brought for Tony and Sheila from Jacobs Creek.
Today we took Sheila and Auntie Brenda out to lunch at a beautiful old fashioned cafe (although Sheila drove). The walls were decorated with old newspaper articles and the staff wore the old aprons and hats. They had all homemade cakes and bread, the iced coffees looked amazing. We loved it so much we have decided to open something similar when we return to the UK! We went to the local mall tonight for dinner, think we'll be having an early night, we're tired out!!
