We had an early start today. We caught the tram into Bern at 8 ready to catch the train to Murren in the mountains. We had to catch a variety of trains and cable cars to reach our final destination as it is high up in the Swiss mountains where there are no cars as its to steep to get them up. It was pouring again today. Any plans of walking were dashed. We caught the tram into Bern and walked along the longest shopping street in Europe. A couple of kms long. And all under cover which was great! At the far end we reached the Bear put where there are 5 bears roaming loose. Back in history they were used to protect Bern from invaders but now they have a very nice enclosure along the river. After lunch we went back to Chris and Di's apartment for a cuppa....

We have arrived at our apartment in Bern. Unfortunately our apartments are opposite sides of the city but on the same tram route. We went by a venicular train and cable car up to the Glacier today. The train takes 20 minutes to get to the glacier and 20 minutes to get back. There is a cable car that then takes people to the ice cave and back. The ice cave is at the start of the glacier. Each year the cave is remade as the glacier is shrinking. We were picked up from Geneva airport for the drive to Chamonix this morning at 9am. An early start as we were about an hour from the airport. The bus trip was nice seeing the change in scenery.
