Well it’s been some time since we’ve blogged and we have zig zagged up and down the Sunshine Coast area visiting friends and family and basically treading water until Laura, Dave, Isabelle and Madeleine arrive in Noosa for a visit. It was so worth it!!
After Maroochydore we travelled south about 19km to Caloundra. Such a big day! Ha ha. We had 3 nights at the Caloundra Waterfront Caravan Park. Such a good location. Right across the road from the shops and right on the water with a cycle path running past. After a great bike ride it was time for David to fish. No luck again. It was David’s birthday while we were there so we walked to Tides Restaurant for a lovely long lunch.
Time to head south then and visit Judy and John for lunch before arriving at Martin and Adele’s for a couple of nights. David had some business appointments while Kerry did “coffee and shopping” with Adele.
Once we left them it was time to head north west again and visit the Broadbents at Samford. Really lovely to catch up. Overnight was at Dayboro showground then it was two nights just south of Kenilworth via Montville and Maleny. Unfortunately it was a Sunday when we went through these lovely towns and they were packed! While we were free camping, we met a lovely young couple who we invited to share our campfire. They were France and gave us some great tips for travelling there. From there it was back to the coast to Noosa. We stayed at Noosa River Holiday Park and cooled our heels for a night until Laura and family arrived the next afternoon. We visited Australia Zoo and Eumundi Markets and the boys went to Noosa Hill Climb to watch cars wizzing up a Hill. Sad to farewell them but it was time for them to head home.
From Noosa we free camped just north of Gympie then drove into Woodgate. Stayed at the NRMA Caravan Park which was right across the road from the beach. The beach is protected by Fraser Island so there were no rips or currents to worry about but no waves either. Not warm enough for swimming but lovely beach to walk along.
Next stop 1770. We really like it there. It was our second visit. David fished and only got small ones - which was the same problem everyone had. Time enough to do the sunset tour on the LARC - a pink “army duck” style vehicle.
Time then to head west inland around 300 odd km to Cania Gorge to visit with Chris and Alison Hanson. They were relieving managers at the Big 4 Park. We did a couple of walks there - Shamrock Gold. One and The Overhang and Dripping Rock. Pretty walks. Two nights with them. Great park there - water park for the kids and about 3 nights a week they have different meals which you can order and join in. Things like pizzas, fish and chips and roast camp oven dinner. Not somewhere where you just call in on the way - it is quite out of the way.
The nights are getting cold inland. We are off to Carnarvon Gorge next then back to the coast.
