Day 2
I had a reasonably good sleep in my impromptu camp site. There was light rain and I only managed to get a few drops on the bivy from holes in the roof.
I wanted to recharge the iphone so I headed back to binna burra to find a power point and have some breakfast. The open but empty information hut provided a concealed a PowerPoint behind a display - perfect.
The 22 kms I did yesterday had left me a bit sore in the legs so I decided to take it easy. I completed the 5 km Caves Circuit and the 2 km Bellbird Lookout - which turned in to 4 km as I went off exploring and took a wrong turn (left at the bitumen rd and not right). The downside was the wrong turn was way uphill!
It was now passed lunch so I decided to drive to Green Mountain a bit early. This enabled me to scope my next campsite and get a feel for what this part of Lamington NP had to offer.
I discovered a lookout with picnic table and grassed area that was perfect but I couldn't set up yet - still had more walking to do!
Green Mountain was swarming with people and very loud kids. After completing the tree top walk and cringing at the whingy kids I quickly ran to another part of the park and completed a 4 km and 3 km walk.
Time to secure my camp spot for the night so I headed back to the lookout. To my good fortune it was still available and I settled in for the night.
The drive to Green Mountain is one of the best ever! The road winds it's way up the mountain. The views are amazing and the last 3 km through the rain forest is spectacular!
Don't forget to check out pics!
Happy hiking.
