Day 1
Arrived at Binna Burra around 8 am. After some basic exploring of the park I got my hiking gear ready and prepared/packed lunch.
Today I was tackling the Ships Stern - a 22 km walk through rain forest and more traditional Australian forests.
The leeches we happy to see me and managed to suck a few pints from the legs, chest and back.
The track resembled Kokoda in places - very muddy! Day light was about half strength due to tree cover, threatening storm and mist rolling in and across the top of the mountain.
The negatives aside it was a pleasant walk. I saw waterfalls, birds and lots of lovely green ferns, palms and moss. Birds sang too.
I have selected a picnic spot on the road out for camp tonight. The rock wall gives me coverage from the road and the cement floor and tin roof a good chance of a dry night. As you expect traffic is high as people begin to head home - I am hoping it settles down when the sun goes away.
Having trouble adding photos - so will maybe add these when I get back to Perth.
A baby magpie just landed next to me to see what I was doing!
Happy hiking.
Dave
