Wow what a journey to get to Can Tho in Vietnam! It was supposedly meant to take 6 hours, but 11 hours later we flopped on to our bed in the cool special rare treat of an air conditioned room!
Can Tho was a lovely introduction to Vietnam. Nothing too overwhelmingly memorable but just a lovely town without too many chaotic moped drivers (Saigon next! :-s)
Highlight of the city was the floating market which meant a 5am start. Rocking to and fro amongst pineapple pedlars and pumpkin pushers as the sun came up our boat driver offered pho... so, for the second time on the trip we tucked into meat soup for breakfast (this time pork). 40 minutes later we cruised along side canals of the mighty Mekong, but a chunk chunk chunk and clatter, and then an almighty bang found us motorless and adrift...the propeller had tangled in flotsam and literally snapped off. After thirty minutes of tinkering with a broken wrench and a lady with more than broken English we succeeded in loosening the propeller and fitting a spare (assume this isn't the first time it's happened). We were off back to Can Tho! And luckily too, because our bus to ho chi Minh leaves in an hour :-)
