13th July 2013 - spent the morning in at the hotel and then just took it easy before heading out for a couple hours of shopping near the historical centre of Lima. Found a 3 story tall artisiatians market and shopped around there. brought sandwich from a local booth shop for $1 sol and they were delicious so went back for another on our way back to the hotel just before noon. Visited a colonial style building that is now the offices for culture. There are so many amazing buidling in this old section of Lima, they have the most amazing details in the stone work and constructed on such an enormous scale.
Got our bags and caught a taxi to the sherton hotel. The taxi was pretty old and falling apart but saved having to walk with the bags. Checked in and just relaxed before heading out to the large shopping mall behind the hotel. It was different to be shopping in such a western style of shops, it left like any other mall with a food court and then a department store and supermarket in them also. Had some empanades for lunch. They were ok, but jad been fried and tasty too oily compared to the ones that are baked in the oven. Back to the hotel and took an afternoon nap. Walked out to collect our washing. Stopped and looked at various shops along the way. Noticed that everyone in the street was eating these fried dough rolls so we lined up with everyone else and brought one to try. It was just a small shop/ whole in the wall that sold only this one product but they couldn't keep up with demand... It was really tasty but we never could really figure out what it was that was the filling for the dough. It was delicious either way. Collected the laundry and walked back to the hotel. Thought about finding something for dinner but were both tired and not very hungry so didn't bother. Watched a little tv and repacked a bag, the next two nights we are on a small tour to the Nasca lines so will just leave the main luggage at the hotel.
