Hello everyone!! some of you may have read this already, not that we're getting lazy you understand, but Jess had already sent an e-mail with what we have done in the south, so here it is:
I am typing this on the evening of Saturday 30th April. The plan had been to send this as an email
tonight which meant going down to the wifi at the Marina down the road and tping and sending. I began the first part of the plan but started to get attacked by little flying things before I'd even begun writing so had to come back to the house,
where there is no internet, type up this email and then will have to send tomorrow!! Just setting the scene and explaning the
lack of communication.
So, at the moment we are in Savannah (deep south of America) we got here late on Wednesday 27th and were welcomed the next day
by lots of clouds, wind and a tornado warning. So it was a quiet day of wandering around the mall and driving about in the
crazy heavy rain.
Yesterday was much warmer so we went into downtown Savannah to catch the free ferry across a wee bit of water, had some lunch and
went to sit in Forsyth park to catch the first proper rays of sunshine since we have been away.
Today was again a really really hot day so we decided to go down to the Marina and kayak in the lake/river thing. It was nice
until we saw some fins (2 of them) just in front of us, and to begin with it was not overly obvious as to whether they were
that of a dolphin or a shark (Well Mat new but failed to disclose the difference till aferwards!) Anyway, it turned out to be 3 dolphins so that was cool and we cruised along beside
them for a bit. Then we stopped at this island which turned out to be sinking sand which quickly began to eat me and Imogen
while we stood and wondered how long we could stay until we got sucked in. It appeared it may have happened quite quickly so
we got back into the kayak and kayaked back for some lunch and a sunbathe.
After lunch we went back into the kayaks and this was when I began to remember the fact that we were in a marsh and that Imogen
had told me that alligators regularly frequent there. If I had not been alerted to this I would have been totally fine, however
as we kayaked along (much faster as we realised we had a rudder at the back ha!) and got to another part if the sinking sand
island, we saw loads of fish jumping up and down in the water. Now, at this point flashbacks of the discovery channel haunted
me and I remembered that this can mean there is something scaring the fish and trying to eat them (sometimes). This was not
a completely crazy idea as there are definitely alligators living in that water. So I made a group decision and decided we
were going back, regardless of the taunts from Mat and Imogen. I don't care though as I seriously think there was a gator there.
My suspicions were somewhat confirmed when we collected the paper off the lawn and the headline read "Gators continue to harass
Neighbourhood"!!
Off to Fiji after a looong grey hound to Atlanta, then a longer plane journey back to L.for a couple of nights, seeing as a lot of the islands we're staying on will have electricity only for a few hours a day, let alone wifi we most likely will not be updating this will we land in OZ! Xx
