Travel musings from Sonia
The last 2 weeks have just flown by and its time to say farewell to Ed, Carina and Peter at Daisy Cottage and the village of Tarbert. I've had a wonderful time and have been able to help Ed and Carina out in the garden as the weather allowed (even they said it had been rather wet this year!). The last 3 days though made up for it with really lovely clear sunny days. Ed took me a bit further down Kintyre on Friday and we walked up to a place called Dun Sheig. There are remains of forts up there ("dun" in gaelic means "fort" so I guess Dunedin means fort of Edin??) and the views across to the Isles of Jura and Islay were fantastic. We could also just make out mountains from Ireland in the distance. We had about 10 ravens doing aerial dances above the cliffs-very agile birds in the air.
Yesterday with the weather still good I walked from Tarbert to Skipness through forestry land and forest reserves (some lovely examples of Antlantic Oakwood). It took me about 4 hours to walk across and I got great views all the way-first of Tarbert and Loch Fyne then later the mountains of Jura to the west and the Isle of Arran to the east.
I head off to Crieff this afternoon and go on my first walk with the Drovers Tryst Walking Festival tomorrow.
love to you all,
Sonia
