Travel musings from Sonia
Hello everyone,
A quick postcard tonight before I have dinner. I've arrived in Tarbert (a lovely little village on the edge of Loch Fyne in Argyll) and am settling in to life at Daisy Cottage. I'm staying with Ed Tyler, his wife Carina and their 5 year old son Peter. They have a section of about an acre so not really large but plenty big enough for a great vegie garden, fruit trees and greenhouse which houses some very healthy looking basil and tomato plants! I've had a variety of work to do depending on what the weather has been doing! We've had plenty of rain but the odd spell of sunshine too. I've been helping Ed dismantle the old polytunnel, weed some of the vegie plots and get the area ready for the new polytunnel to protect some of the crops for winter.I've also had some work in the greenhouse-generally tidying the area up and I've helped out with general duties in the house-washing up, helping prepare the evening meals etc. Almost all of the food we eat is organic which is great and we eat what we can out of the garden which is great too-I've certainly come at the right time of year to be eating all the harvest from the garden!
It's been great talking with Ed who is also interested in climate change and related sustainability issues-really good to bounce ideas off him and its also been helpful in thinking about the career direction(s) I'd like to head in, in the future. There are great magazines and books to read here too so I'm well contented.
Right better sign off.
With love, Sonia
