Travel musings from Sonia
I guess I knew the sunny weather couldn't last too much longer...it was misty in Edinburgh yesterday and it was cloudy and trying to rain in Glasgow today (although the sun did try to shine coming back into Edinburgh)-still its reasonably mild and hasn't stopped my sightseeing!
Dean had the day off yesterday so he showed me around central Edinburgh yesterday-we walked up to the castle and down the Royal Mile. Some really lovely architecture and old buildings.
Today Andrina, Dean and I took the train and spent the day in Glasgow-about an hour's train journey away. It was great seeing some of the countryside once out of Edinburgh-green pastures, cows and sheep-reminded me a bit of home! But then you see really old stone buildings, hay bales ready for the winter etc and realise you're not!
In Glasgow we visited Glasgow Cathedral which I found really beautiful with so much history. Downstairs was the tomb of Saint Kentigern, also known as St Mungo so I was thinking of my friends in ACL Union
Parish :-) I'm guessing that's where the name of the Clyde church comes from...We then visited Provand's Lordship-the oldest house in Glasgow, across the road from Glasgow. Again lots of incredible history. Andrina took some pictures with her digital camera so hopefully I'll be able to upload some of the photos. We then spent the afternoon doing what the locals do on a Saturday-shopping!
I really like what I've seen of Scotland so far-amazing history, slower pace even in the cities compared with London and very friendly people. I'm very much looking forward to my trip to the Highlands to see more of rural, wild Scotland!
Love, Sonia
