Today we arrived in the eternal city...Rome! Our hotel is a 2 minute walk from the Vatican, just around the corner from the metro so very convenient, has wifi, aircon, and our room is the only one with a great big balcony! Now for the cons - our room is too far from the access point so we don't get wifi, A/C is broken, bed is tiny, and whilst using the hairdryer provided in the bathroom yesterday - it caught on fire!! (note to self: stick to towel-drying hair whilst in Rome).
Regardless of these things, I've fallen in love with the city..I know I keep saying that but I really do think Rome might be my favorite so far. To think you're walking amongst some of the oldest buildings and ruins is just fascinating.
Today we visited Castel Sant'Angelo (The Castle of Angels) which was really beautiful. The setting sun along with the castle, the waterfront, and the sculptures of angels lining the bridge - it really was a sight worth seeing.
After this we took a 30min walk along the Banks of the River Tiber to an area called Trastevere. Here we walked around the cobblestone alleys and finally picked a place to sit down for a nice dinner. On the way home we stopped by St. Peters Basilica to check it out during the night - sooo beautiful!
