Saturday 8th June
Jane looked at the locality on Google maps & found a new way into town going by north for 500m by the river past the power station, which has a 4m weir to divert the water flow & crossing it to walk on the northern side. The path on this side is tree lined & passes the open air swimming enclosure & a couple of parks & even a small 'Hunde (Dog?) WC' area fenced & gated. To our surprise there was also a quite sizeable aviary housing parrots & budgerigars so it was a great new way to walk into Thun. We came to the city wall & admired some very old buildings which we hadn't seen before, then dropped back to the riverside promenade, had a coffee & moved on to the Kunst Museum, which we had spotted from the bus yesterday.
This is a huge 19th century house but unfortunately little of it appears to be in use. It had several exhibitions of paintings & very bizarre & somewhat so-so artefacts of modern art. One room about 10m by 6m, had what appeared to be an autonomous 3 wheel trolley with a can of paint putting down a random pattern. Another had a film, much of which was devoted to the preparation of a meal but with much emphasis on hand movements but it was totally lost on us.
Did some shopping & retraced our steps back home.
