Saturday 1st June
Up at 6am to fly to Zurich & or driver was early so we were there by 8am only to hear that the plane would be delayed, so we had a read in the airport lounge. We arrived in Zurich at about 1pm & bought our train tickets to Thun descending to the platform only for d*** to find he had left his hat in a café above. Retrieving it we caught a direct train to Thun via Berne & on arrival took a taxi to our home exchange. In Switzerland only the apartment block is numbered, the units are not but they do display the name of the owners or tenants so we found it & opened up. The unit is on the 4th floor of a very smart new looking block with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms & a large open kitchen dining area with a large verandah facing west. This looks out on to a panorama of snow-clad mountains in the background with the railyard in front.
After settling in Jane did the washing which we hung out in the sun & within 3 hours much of it was dry.
We set off to the nearby river which is milky turquoise flooding down from the mountains & walked to the first bridge where we had an excellent, although pricy, pasta dinner.
The Swiss Franc is worth about $1.50+ but the item price numbers are about the same, ie 150% of Australian prices, so it won't be a cheap stay although it should be restful & very pleasant.
And so to bed.
