Round and round in circles we go . . .
Rising with the sun at 6.30am, eating a careful breakfast as at 7.30 we drove to the track for track work and stitches is one thing I most certainly do not want, or throwing up. Due to raining during the night the track was quiet, which was good as it meant when I started my track work I wasn't getting lapped too many times by too many people! One end of the track was worse than the other as you sunk and slipped when running round the corner.
Originally I was doing one min sprint one min easy. No watch, no fitness equals Angela the time keeper going too far ahead so I did halfy half of easy and hard run on the outside of the track while the Kenyans ran on the inside lane. 10mins warm up round track, 12 sprints followed by 2lap cool down, I was done.
Amazing to watch, just effortlessly smooth and fast. This was my first ever track workout, putting aside being at school and racing 1500m against other schools in year 7 and 8. Its pretty much the same as my interval training I used to do on the treadmill. I think we stayed watching everyone train for a while, there were alot of top running athletes here training, Ian was going round getting his picture taken with them all. I don't know who any of them are, Lauren was pointing them out telling me names and roughly what they are best known for, but world record holders.
Roughly 11.30 we left the track and drove to imani workshop. This is where HIV positive women are hired to make crafts such as jewellery, bags, books etc from recycled resources such as glass, paper and clay. I was just incredibly drained and starved, literally no energy levels at all, just to keep my eyes open and to walk was such a struggle, I was just burning up. I need food.
After people had fannied around buying gifts, I was tempted to buy a gorgeous necklace but there was cow bone on it so I just couldn't do it to myself! Sitting outside waiting to go, eventually we got into our car thing. Everyone was feeling the same due to little breakfast and a hard workout.
Roughly about 1.30pm we got to Moses hotel and had dinner of chapattis, mine were with peas and a couple other vegetable things, they were absolutely more amazing than normal chapattis due to feeling like crap. Once we were all chapattied up, which took a while as they kept getting peoples orders wrong and bringing out random dishes, eventually we all got our food.
We split off and shopped in Eldoret,I went with Finn the chronicle paper writer, who is currently writing a book, running with the Kenyans, and is living in Iten with his family for 6months. First port of call was a sport shop, not great. Second port of call was the supermarket that does everything, so I was in my glory wandering around, its like an asda, does everything including an upstairs of shoes, clothes, sports equipment, you name it it has it. So I bought some treats and had a few lollies.
The supermarket was our meeting point so once everyone arrived and got their chocolate supplies in, we made our way back to the camp roughly at 4.30pm ish.
An easy 30min run with Angela just to stretch out the legs and stop us seizing up. Followed by stretches in the gym, then believe it or not, naked sauna time with Car. We weren't alone today in this event. There were two other women in the sauna who were putting aloe vera leaf water onto the sauna, but lordie lord it was immensely hot. As soon as we walked in we couldn't breathe, both of us sitting on the bottom shelf. I was totally shocked that Car wasn't on the top. Literally lost my top layer of skin. Lasting probably not even 5minutes we got out, popped on our clothes. The other two women couldn't stop laughing at us, they were doing 5 rounds of 15mins with 5min break inbetween, absolute madness. Car and me, pathetic when it comes to extreme sauna-ing.
Back in my room, another handwash, still no water in the block, I just stank though, hadn't had a shower all day, especially after the mornings workout I was stinking.
Food time, sitting in the canteen, I came 2nd last in whist, it was such a battle not to come last, disappointing after leading for the first 3 or 4rounds. Its an addictive game. Bedtime b****ing with Angela before bed.xx
