Day 236, 25 February 2013, Krakow to Warsaw and on to Berlin. Travel Day indeed. We left the hotel smack on time (albeit not actually awake) at 4.15 am - onto the train at 4.30 and 25 minutes to warm up prior to departure at 4.55 am. We were out of luck on the warming up as the train was freezing - but we snuggled down for a snooze and eventually pulled into Warsaw Centralna at 8.15 am - right on time. We explored the station, bought postcards, had a coffee at traditional old Polish coffee shop (Starbucks... wifi... what can I say). Then jumped on the Warsawa-Berlin Express - super comfy, warm and a compartment for six with only one other traveller. We read, we had our final Polish meal in the buffet car for a couple of hours of sightseeing bleak, freezing landscapes and then a snooze. Honestly, a little over 5 hours was barely enough. Made it to Berlin Hauptbahnhof right on time and figured out the public transport on the fly - catching the S-Bahn to Alexanderplatz. Having got another crazy, superb, low season, couldn't believe it deal via Olotels.com, we're staying at the superb Park Inn by Radisson right in Alexanderplatz - looking out on Berlin's iconic TV antenna with the Berliner Dom and the Brandenburg Gate a little further along. We had a grand dinner of Thai food at a recently opened restaurant just down the road from the hotel - which has wifi. Which is lucky, because the blog must continue and we're just not paying €18 a day in the hotel. That's more than our dinner and drinks cost tonight! Right then. Off to bed soon, big day exploring Berlin tomorrow - History, here we come.
