Wednesday 11th June Anchorage
We were up at 6am this morning and walked to the Steam Dot Coffee Shack and had a decent coffee and breakfast. We continued into downtown Anchorage to the Visitors Centre where we took a shuttle bus to the Alaska Heritage Centre which is located ten miles from downtown Anchorage, and is situated on 26 wooded acres. Inside - the Hall of Cultures, theatre and Gathering Place are home to activities and demonstrations. Outside are six life sized Native dwellings surrounding Lake Tiulana. We spent hours here walking around the lake and visiting the native dwellings and talking to the Natives. We also watched demonstrations of dancing and sporting activities in the Gathering Place. Later in the afternoon we ventured back to Ship Creek to see if the Salmon had come in yet. We walked quite a distance along the creek, again lots of local fishermen, but no salmon. There were mirage jets flying overhead from the nearby Air Force Base. At 6pm we met our Tour Guide, Claudia from Cosmos at our hotel. After our meeting with our group we had dinner at the Slippery Salmon Bar and Grill again..........
