Sunday 8th June 2014 Melbourne to Anchorage

Pete and I departed Melbourne Airport on United Airlines Flight 840. First stop was Sydney where we had a three hour wait, next leg was to San Francisco where we went through Customs and Immigration and then had an eight hour wait. We finally arrived in Anchorage at 11.17pm on 8th June. Now I know why it is called the land of the Midnight Sun - it's still daylight..................I contacted the Ramada Inn and they were coming to get us. Waiting outside the terminal we saw many luxurious limosenes, then our van arrived - a really old beaten up van. Our driver got out of the van and had to kick the side door to get it to open, the side step was broken and only held on by one weld. Inside the van was old and mouldy, We both thought, what is the hotel going to be like?? On arrival we were greeted by friendly staff and our room was clean and warm. We struggled to get to sleep because we were over tired, the noise from the planes above, and the trucks on the freeway and of course, the Midnight SUN.
